- The included Houseplant Soil Mix is a lightweight, nutrient-rich blend of materials for moisture retention, combined with perlite and coarse sand for excellent drainage and aeration. Its balanced pH and natural amendments, such as coarse peat and perlite create the ideal environment for healthy roots while mimicking the plant's native habitat, ensuring quick water flow to prevent overwatering.
- Light Requirements: Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch its leaves, so a spot with filtered light or partial shade is ideal for optimal growth.
- Watering Frequency: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch, ensuring it doesn’t dry out completely. It appreciates high humidity, so misting or placing it near a humidifier can boost its health.
- Physical Characteristics: The Calathea Freddie features oval, deeply veined leaves in shades of green, with darker green markings running in a striped pattern across the surface. The undersides of the leaves are a rich purple, adding a lovely contrast to the upper foliage.
- Temperature Tolerance: Thrives in temperatures between 65°F and 80°F (18°C – 27°C). Avoid exposure to cold drafts or sudden temperature changes, as it may cause stress and inhibit growth.
